27 NovOur 1st Turkey Day

After 11 years together, 9 in our house, and 5 of marriage Tom and I hosted our first Thanksgiving. My mom tried to make it real easy for me by providing just about everything except the turkey itself. That was up to me. About a half dozen phone calls later (what size, what brand, what goes in it, on it, what about the wings, I can’t find the guts, and a couple of “OMG this is so gross!”) I finally got the bird in the oven. And guess what? It was a success!

My parents brought along the booze, sides and desserts. Tom’s sister brought more desserts (yum) and Tom made amazing mashed potatoes. Our rookie move was forgetting to make the stuffing and somehow the green vegetable was left in Syracuse. Oh well, more room for pies. (The apple one I wish I had more of.)

This was also the first time we used our wedding place settings. Geez, who knew how nice our things were? I might have to break out the good stuff more often.

I think I can handle a family dinner in the future...the very distant future.

Hope everyone enjoyed their holiday as well. Mom and Dad, I’ll be coming home for Christmas!!
