02 Jan2010 – When did that happen?

Melissa and I had New Year’s Eve dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, New World Bistro Bar. I asked the waitress if we could keep our menus for our scrapbooks. And by scrapbooks I meant blogs but it came out like we really made scrapbooks – not that there is anything wrong with that – but I haven’t scrapbooked since, you know, the eighties. May I present my electronic scrapbook of the evening:

The four course meal came with two appetizers an entree and dessert. The restaurant based the dishes on movies, so the parentheses will tell you the movie reference.

No movie theme here, just drinks at the bar waiting for our table. However, there is the Spectrum movie list in the background that someone left there. Could of been us, we stop in for a drink between movies quite often.

Still at the bar. We tried one of their specialty drinks, this is a gin drink with cucumber and lemonade and it was delightful and will be waiting for me this summer when the patio opens again.

I regret not ordering the Greek Rack of Lamb as Melissa had suggested. Since when do I eat steak?? Tom didn't regret that this is what came home with me.

We arrived at Melissa’s apartment in time to see the ball drop and give our lovies a big smooch at midnight. Then we went outside to watch the fireworks – you know the ones – that don’t exist. So instead we watched the sky and said at least 100 times, where are the fireworks?

I feel like the past ten years went by in a blink. Literally a blink. And that has made me feel like if I blink again it will be 2020 and that seems so far away but obviously its not, it’s only a blink away. And as I was sharing my anxieties about this to my friend she totally calmed me down by saying, “that is exactly why we need to live each moment to its fullest.” How true!

Happy New Year!

Can you help me with this one:

Red Chile Rubbed NY Strip Steak with chipotle-grapefruit hollandaise (Napoleon Dynamite 2004).

I saw the movie, and I’m missing the reference. I’d think the Napoleon Dynamite dish would be some kind of quesadilla or have something to do with tater tots.

Tater tots. The steak came with a side of homemade tater tots that I substituted with quinoa-tomatillo stuffed artichoke. I never saw Napoleon Dynamite so I didn’t know I was leaving out the reference. Good catch!

Sweet. I’m glad I have some good skills.

  4. Hello. This is kind of an “unconventional” question , but have other visitors asked you how get the menu bar to look like you’ve got it? I also have a blog and am really looking to alter around the theme, however am scared to death to mess with it for fear of the search engines punishing me. I am very new to all of this …so i am just not positive exactly how to try to to it all yet. I’ll just keep working on it one day at a time Thanks for any help you can offer here.
